1. FLOUR SACK EMOTIONAL STATES - SOLO (shoot in pairs)
Create 3-6 seconds of animation that embodies your randomly assigned emotional state. Paired with the right performance, sound can go a long way toward giving us access to your character's emotional state.
Pro tips:
- Work in pairs. Camera operator and animator.
- Be intentional about keeping your clay flour sack on model. You may need to recast your clay puppet mid production to maintain shape and texture.
Instructions:
- Start by striking poses that best convey your character's emotional state.
- Stage your character accordingly.
- Animate in 1's @ 12 fps
- Export MP4 Movie and Archive Dragonframe Project
- Add sound in Premiere.

- Final piece should be between 3 and 6 seconds

2. FLOUR SACK EMOTIONAL STATES - ENSEMBLE W/ RACK FOCUS (shoot in pairs)
Create 8-10 seconds of animation exploring the relationship between characters in contrasting emotional states. In this assignment, you will be using character performance, scene blocking and rack focus to help your viewer navigate the scene.
Pro tips:
- Rack focus works best with a wide aperture setting and clearly defined foreground and background.
- Keep wipes on hand to keep your hands and your shoot surface clean.
Instructions:
- Brainstorm a simple performance between characters.
- Stage your character in the scene and establish focal setting for rack focus.
- Animate in 1's @ 12 fps
- Export MP4 Movie and Archive Dragonframe Project
- Add sound in Premiere.
